Better Futures – Leaving Care and Independence Development Worker

The role:

 

Rumbalara Aboriginal Cooperative in partnership the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL) and Berry Street are working to develop a practice framework, resources and tools for young people transitioning from out-of-home care into independence. This is the Better Futures framework.

The Better Futures framework will be trialled in the Goulburn Area (East Division) and delivered by Rumbalara Engagement and Family Services and Berry Street.

Primarily, this position will apply an advantage thinking approach through a key development worker to Aboriginal young people eligible for Leaving Care services and their families, services and agencies connected to the young person.

The role will work directly with the case management and care teams ensuring a shared understanding of key issues related to: theoretical frameworks including attachment theory, trauma theory, brain development, ages and stages of development, resilience theory, advantaged thinking approach, adult learning principles and the neurobiological development of maltreated children.

 

Minimum qualifications required to be considered for this position include: Tertiary qualification in Community Services, Social                                                                     Work, Youth Work or related discipline.

Innovative Health Support for Homeless Youth (IHSHY) / Community Engagement and Support Officer (CESO) – Dual role

IHSHY -The purpose of this role is to provide access to health and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth between the age of 12-18 years who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Support is individualized according to assessed needs and may include advocacy and liaison with appropriate services. This role will interact closely with RAC internal services and external agencies as requires to provide young people optimum opportunity to embrace culture, build on their strengths and experience a positive transition to adulthood.

 

IHSHY aims to ensure that young community members have access, equity and opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing, education, employment and life skills and to be strong family and valued community members.

 

 

CESO - The purpose of this role is to provide access to health and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members who are experiencing social, emotional and financial hardship to access appropriate health and support services ensuring access, equity and opportunity to improve their wellbeing.  Support will include assessment and assistance to access material aid where appropriate.

 

The CESO will assist the Community Support and Therapeutic Support Officer, - Gambling Awareness Program, in raising awareness of gambling harms and in the delivery therapeutic activities for community members and families affected by the impacts of gambling.
